To read out the DTCs from the computer for diagnostic purposes, the Self Test connector is used.
Start engine and bring to normal operating temperature. If engine will not start or stalls after starting, proceed with next step. Turn the key “OFF”, then wait ten seconds. Activate the self test by grounding the Self-Test Input (STI) connector. Turn the ignition key “ON”. Record all codes received. Turn ignition “OFF”.

1.you must have enough disk space to download the full set of February 2016 data base (52Gb); it comes with seven iso images and the SA4.0 image and a February 2015 update which you don’t need and of course the activator.
2.use an iso mounter software to mount the SA4.0 image to a virtual drive.
3.browse to the setup file in your virtual drive and run it as administrator
follow the steps (it will prompt for a username and password use those of your windows user account if you’re under 7-8 or 10 windows version)
it will take a while! don’t turn off the computer and don’t worry about the incompatibility messages that windows will show you during the installation process specially for the SQL 2005 server installation.
4.after completing the installation of the SA4.0 reboot the computer and set back the system time to mars 2016.
5.mount the first iso image of the data discs to a virtual drive, browse the sauce folder and run setup file as administrator; wait for it to complete the installation it will launch the SA 4.2.005 at this step you may have a message that the SA 4.2.005 is not capable of launching the search engine don’t worry close it and go to task manager (ctr alt sup)
click on services and look for the LightweightIDOL service if it’s stopped than run it.
6.run the activator as administrator and activate the service advisor; don’t use the prolongation tool at this step!.
7.now go to the task manager again and look for the SAupdater service and disable it.
8.re-open the service advisor, click the accept button for the license agreement, and configure the path for the data access you can use the mapping for a virtual drive choice to map each data disc image to a virtual drive it will take more than an hour to load all the data disk.
it will ask you for scheduling the update choose the end of the week and create the task.
9.Now close the SA, use the activator again but this time just use the prolongation tool choose 9000 days or whatever you want.
10.Look for the task scheduler and run it, choose the SAupdate task and modify the time for the task to begin to 2030 or whatever you want.
11.reboot the computer and set back the time machine to the actual time, launch SA and everything must work ok.
if you have any trouble than you messed something just clean up and reinstall.

Recently, there are many customers who have reflected,the following tips appear when testing some Mercedes-Benz cars with V2019.12 MB STAR C4 SD Connect Compact Diagnosis tool:
We first checked the hardware of MB STAR C4/C5 and found that the hardware works normally. The problem should be in the software section.
One of the customers in Hong Kong reported that after the software upgrade to V2018.09, the Mercedes-Benz C-series car could not be connected, and the same prompt appeared above.
Model of his car: Mercedes-Benz C320 chassis W204 2015.
We looked at the diagnostic interface provided by the customer and found that there is a hardware icon for MB STAR C6 in the upper right corner of the xentry software interface, as follows:
It turns out that the customer has set the hardware mode error to C6 mode.
When the customer uses the Mercedes-Benz diagnostic tool MB STAR C4 or C5, the corresponding hardware mode must be set to C4 in the software. Your MB STAR C4 or C5 can work normally.
If you set the wrong hardware mode, there will be some Mercedes-Benz models that cannot be diagnosed or some features that cannot be used.
How to set your MB STAR C4 or C5 hardware mode:
1.Open your MB STAR C4 or C5 software
2.Double click ConfigAssist icon.
3.Select the hardware mode:
3.1 If the Mercedes-Benz diagnostic device you are using is MB STAR C4 or C5, please select SD connect, as shown below:
3.2 If the Mercedes-Benz diagnostic device you are using is MB STAR C6, please select xentry diagnosis VCI, as shown below:
3.3 If you choose xentry diagnosis VCI suitable for MB STAR C6, the hardware icon of C6 appears in the software interface, as follows:
3.4 If you choose SDconnect mode for MB STAR C4 or C5, the C6 hardware icon of the software interface will disappear, as follows:
When your MB STAR C4 C5 C6 hardware mode is set up correctly, your device will work properly.
If your device hardware is normal, the hardware mode settings are also correct. But there are still some Mercedes-Benz cars that can’t be tested, that is, your Mercedes-Benz software permissions issue.
Because MB STAR C4/C5/C6 software also has usage rights, some functions must be authorized before they can be used.

SK900 often update, more models will be tested ok.
Have one BMW ICOM with ISTA software to scan a 2012 BMW 7 series N63 engine, the car runs rough and I get the fault, “malfunction powertrain”. I thought it was my ignition coil so I replaced number #7.
Suggestion from one professional:
Did you have the CCP (Customer Care Package ) done and were the injectors replaced at that time? I think you should have an extended warranty on the injectors for 10 years/120K miles, so that is the problem, you should go back to the dealer and have it fixed under warranty.
Did you run the misfire test module? Before replacing anything, you can rule out the coil by swapping it to another cylinder and see if the misfire is still on #7.
Have the dealer check your VIN to see if the CCP has been done (there will also be a sticker on the driver’s door jamb if it was done). Take a look here for more info:
It’s just a guess about the injectors, as they are a common cause of drivetrain malfunction. There are multiple revisions of the injectors, so if they aren’t the latest, the dealer will swap them out.
Bank 1 passenger side front to rear, 1, 2, 3, 5 Bank 2 Drivers side front to rear, 5, 6, 7, 8.
You should have INPA software loaded on your PC, it works better when testing the cylinders & injectors with the engine running. You can run Analog, or Digital component test. You cannot damage anything with INPA, it is just diagnostic Test.
Google “bmw k dcan cable switch” to buy the cable, actually, as to the INPA software, you will get it on a CD when you buy that cable., and then you don’t need to take risk to download the free software with virus.
Fact:
My car has had the CCP ( customer service package) done in 2015. I had the dealership send me the report of service and they replaced all the injectors at that time along with many other parts except the timing chain. I’m hoping my problem is in a coil and/or spark plug. I’m going to run the INPA program and test those items.
Then I was told that:
Injectors have a 10 year 120,000 miles warranty. It does not matter if they have been replaced in the past. If they are bad again, then the Dealer will replace them free of cost and keep replacing them until the warranty period is over.
UPDATE:
Replaced all my spark plugs which were original I’m expecting based on how they looked and I had no record they were ever changed. My fault was cleared by the ISTA program and the car runs well again. So no injector issue, even though my fault reading through ISTA said number 7 injector misfire, it was a spark plug. I tried using the INPA program, but I couldn’t get the program to run, it kept coming up with an error in German.
