An interview with Santa Claus in Himmelpfort

Almost every child now knows that Santa Claus lives in Brandenburg.
In the idyllically situated town of Himmelpfort between Stolpsee, Sidowsee, Moderfitzsee and Haussee, he has been moving back into his small room since November 7th.
It has the memorable address: To Santa Claus, Christmas Post Office, 16798 Himmelpfort. Every day the mountain of letters to him grows, with countless wishes from children.
They are all eagerly waiting for December 24th and hope with shining eyes that all their wishes will come true. Santa Claus in Himmelpfort still has a lot to do before Christmas Eve.

But we were still able to talk to him briefly and elicit a few answers from his bushy white beard.
Which wishes are the most common and which wish was the most unusual so far?
Many children wanted mobile phones, game consoles, computer accessories, MP3 and DVD players. But traditional gifts such as Barbie dolls, pirate boats, fire engines/police cars,
excavators, cranes and bicycles are also on the wish list. Immaterial wishes such as peace for all children in the world and health for their families often reach me.
Do you speak all the languages ​​of the world and from how many countries do you get mail from the children?
My angels and I speak 17 other languages ​​in addition to German. With them we can communicate very well with all children. Last year we received around 292,000 painted, crafted and written letters from around 70 countries.
You were transferred to Himmelpfort almost 30 years ago: Do ​​you actually like it here and what do you do after work?
Children all over the world know that I answer their letters from the Deutsche Post branch in Himmelpfort. I really like the landscape around it with the extensive forest and the lakes.
My reindeer feel good there too. And I am very welcome among the people in the region, as are the around 20,000 children who visit me every year.
That\'s why the Brandenburg Himmelpfort is my home in the run-up to Christmas. It\'s such a wonderful tradition as eating cinnamon stars these weeks.
I enjoy it every evening with my angels. We tell each other about particularly beautiful letters. We often sing Christmas carols together.
How do you actually determine whether a child has been nice or not that has written you a wish list?
Santa Claus wouldn\'t be Santa Claus if he didn\'t know these important details. Of course, I can\'t reveal where I got this knowledge from.
Where are you all year long after Christmas is over - at the North Pole?
Exactly. I like to be at the North Pole often. But I also travel a lot and take my time to look at the countries that I drive through at lightning speed at Christmas.

Himmelpfort is the only Christmas post office in the new federal states. In 2012, more than 292,000 letters from all over the world reached Santa Claus in Brandenburg.
Not only children from Germany write to Himmelpfort, also around 20,000 children from abroad send wish lists, greetings or describe their worries and needs.
