Each major coffee chain takes care not only of the quality drink that the barista prepares, but also that the guest prepares for himself at home. When a guest begins to choose grain, he is faced with a huge variety. What to choose?
How to choose coffee beans
1. Check the type of grain
Coffee beans are divided into two types: Arabica and Robusta. Coffee Like recommends and uses exclusively 100% Arabica. It has more aromatic oils that affect the taste of coffee. Imagine a bitter drink in which you want to add sugar - for sure it is made on the basis of Robusta. Arabica coffee is more interesting and varied, it can reveal notes of chocolate, fruits, nuts, ripe berries and even tea. Arabica plantations require special care, farmers collect almost 5 kg of ripe berries from one tree, and after roasting about 1 kg of grain remains. That is why good coffee beans cannot be cheap.
2. Decide on a Cooking Method
How will you prepare coffee at home: with an espresso machine or an alternative method? The latter include:
drip coffee maker
Turk
French press
aeropress
pourover
Chemex
3. Choose the degree of roast
For each method, there are grains of different degrees of roast: for an espresso machine - medium, for an alternative - light. We do not recommend using dark roast beans, because they give out excessive bitterness.
4. Pay attention to the freshness of the grain
Ideally, if it has been from a week to 1.5 months since roasting, during this period it is at the peak of its potential. However, grain retains excellent taste for 6 months.
5. Follow your taste preferences
Someone likes a more even and understandable taste with chocolate and nutty notes, someone is more interested in grain, where acidity is manifested in various ways: green apple, orange, etc. If you choose coffee beans, grind it immediately before cooking, so the grain retains taste and aroma longer.
