One of the first rules to know if you’re thinking of collecting wine for your own personal consumption is proper storage;

a lot of us don’t really give much thought to wine storing or realizes the consequences of improper storage of wines. Have you ever opened a bottle of wine and it tasted like vinegar?

Sometimes it’s the fault of the store owner where you bought your wine, if you’ve only recently purchased it,

great you could always go back and get a refund but what if this is the bottle of wine that you bought years ago and decided to keep it for a special occasion because it tasted like heaven when you first had your first sip.

You’ll be wondering what happened to make the wine taste change so dramatically. Unfortunately, this would never have happened if you had followed the first rule, proper storage.

No doubt that a wine cellar is where wines are commonly stored, but not all of us own a home that has cellar space or can afford to convert one into a cellar. In this day and age, more and more people are living in non-landed properties like condominiums and services apartments

due to the increasingly high price tags on landed properties. Living in a place that doesn’t have a cellar space much less a garage doesn’t mean you should spend a lot of money on cellar rental, on the contrary,

you can save to spend it on upgrading your wine collection if you created your own storage space in your home.

Wine racks are the best substitute to a wine cellar. With just the basic knowledge on the guidelines for proper storage will enable you give the best storage for your wine under any circumstances or area space.

The first thing you should know is that wines bottles needs to be kept away from light at a temperature of around 57 degrees Fahrenheit,

secondly, the bottles must be kept in a horizontal position at all times prior to consumption so that the liquid is in constant contact with the cork to prevent it from drying out and losing its flavor.

There are many wonderful types of wine racks for you to choose from to suit your home dcor and budget. Wine racks come in a variety of design and sizes.

You can find ready assembled designer wine racks, made out of wood, metal or even treated plastic which are smaller in size that can accommodate only up to 6 bottles at one time, these mini wine racks are meant primarily for display rather than lengthy storage purposes.

These wine racks normally sits on your counter top or anywhere within eye view height and are great for wine storage up to one year before consumption.

Other common wine racks are self assembly racks, generally made out of wood or treated saw dust material, which are available in a range of sizes to suit your needs.

The best thing about these racks is that they are expandable or also known as stackable as your collection grows. These free standing wine racks take only minutes to assemble yourself and are versatile to fit any space in your home.

Despite being referred to as racks, wine rack designs can be in the form of a cube rack, triangular shaped and circular nodes.

One of my favorite wine racks is one made out of metal wires which are twisted in a various directions and shapes to form individual bottle shaped nodes to hold bottles vertically.

It reminds me of tree branches. Bottles are then placed upside down in all sorts of angles while ensuring the wine contents are in contact with the cork at all times.
