The ride on the Furka-Oberwald steam train is a very special experience for young and old that is not offered every day.
Technology lovers can take a close look at an original steam locomotive and even experience it in action.
And nature lovers can see the most beautiful aspects of the passing landscape on the journey.
The Swiss Furka-Oberwald steam train is a real steam train. The almost 100-year-old steam locomotive, which is still heated in its original way,
takes tourists and other interested parties through the beautiful landscape of the Rhone Glacier.

The journey from the Realp DFB train station in Uri in the direction of the Gletsch station in Valais takes about two hours.
There is a car park for train passengers\' cars and buses right next to the station. The station was renovated just a few years ago and was also made wheelchair-accessible at the same time.
Although wheelchair users are of course welcome on the steam train, a reservation is necessary as places are limited.
But otherwise, a ride without a reservation is generally not recommended. In this case, a seat cannot be guaranteed and standing up for the journey is certainly not for everyone.
Unfortunately, anyone who has figured out traveling by bike on the train is out of luck:

The first part of the journey, which the passengers spend in the lovingly restored compartments of a nostalgic train, goes slowly downhill at first.
Passing the water of the Furkareuss, it goes over the Wiler bridge and several tunnels towards the Steffenbach bascule bridge.
A break is made in Tiefenbach, which is used to load the locomotive with water, an exciting spectacle for the spectators!
If the boiler of the locomotive is full, you can continue. Now follows the first ascent, which the train masters very slowly and calmly. Flowering alpine meadows and peacefully grazing cattle pass by.
Then it goes over the Steinstafel Viaduct with the gigantic natural stone arches.
The following stop is made at the Furka station, to which the railway owes its name. Furka train station is 2160 meters above sea level.
A break will be taken here, which passengers can use to have something to eat or drink. A short walk is also possible to use the time. Meanwhile, the steam train doesn\'t take a break.
It is turned on a turntable in the direction of Gletsch, because that is where the little journey is supposed to continue.
Immediately after continuing the journey, it goes downhill through an almost two-kilometer-long tunnel, which is an exciting passage.
Via the Muttbach-Belvedere station, it then continues in the direction of the valley through the breathtakingly beautiful and protected landscape.
After the Muttbach level crossing, which will soon come into view, the journey goes steeply downhill again before reaching the Gletsch terminus after about an hour and a half.
Here the passengers of the Furka-Oberwald Dampfbahn await a kiosk with information material about the train and of course with a lot of souvenirs, which should remind of the beautiful journey.
