Introducing MELD-ST: A Breakthrough Dataset for Emotion-Aware Speech Translation
Researchers from the Technical University of Munich, Kyoto University, SenseTime, and the National Institute of Informatics in Japan have unveiled MELD-ST, a pioneering dataset designed to enhance speech-to-text (S2TT) and speech-to-speech translation (S2ST) by incorporating emotional context. Built on the existing MELD dataset, MELD-ST includes 10,000 emotion-labeled utterances from the TV series "Friends" in English-to-Japanese and English-to-German pairs. Initial experiments reveal that while emotion labels can slightly improve S2TT performance, they don\'t significantly enhance S2ST results.
