Causes of acne in Teens and ways to deal with it

Acne is a very common condition in teens. It causes whiteheads, blackheads, pimples in most cases. But, in more severe cases, it may lead to formation of large, solid, painful lumps under the skin, which may be full of pus (nodules and cystic lesions). It occurs when oil and dead skin clog the hair follicles. The pores in the skin act as the opening to a follicle. The oil glands found in the hair follicles, also known as sebaceous glands, release sebum(oil). This oil moves upward through the hair, out of pore and onto the skin, causing acne. Check more on causes of acne in teens and ways to deal with it.

Common causes of Acne

It is caused due to the following factors-

1.Excessive oil (sebum) production
2. Bacteria
3. Dead skin cells blocking the hair follicles.
4. excessive release of hormones such as androgen.

Moreover, acne is caused due to puberty and the reasons listed above. But there are some other factors that may accelerate the development of Acne. Another important factor is a bad diet. There are several foods that contribute to acne such as fast food, dairy products, foods rich in Omega-6 fats, refined grains, sugar or any kinds of sweets, including chocolate.

Besides, acne aggravates because of allergic food items which may differ from person to person. In addition, whey protein, excess nutritional supplements (mainly protein) also contribute to acne growth.

Ways to prevent acne in Teenage

To treat acne, especially when its condition worsens, a long and very expensive treatment is usually given by the doctors to fix it. There’s no guarantee that the prescription medicines will work on every skin type with equal efficiency. Moreover, there are high chances of an allergy from the several harmful chemicals found in creams and lotions, leading to more complications and higher expenses.

Prevention is the best treatment in the case of acne, and to keep your skin clean and safe.

Check out Do’s and Don’ts and ways to prevent acne are-

Be stress Free:

High stress and anxiety levels are known to cause inflammation, which may lead to formation of acne filled with bacteria. Yoga, meditation, relaxing, etc., can assist in low stress levels to promote a better overall lifestyle

Diet Control:

Limiting sugary and fatty foods (especially those with high amounts of oil) can help in controlling acne, as they’re usually responsible for triggering acne formation in our bodies.

Keep yourself clean:

Cleanliness is the key to a healthy lifestyle and body. Dirt & oil in your face along with your hair can cause a major breakout of acne. Keeping them clean is very important. It’s also very important to treat your hair and face with care and not scrub or rub too much as it may dry the skin, thus aggravating the acne.

Bursting the Pimples:

This is a BIG NO. In most cases, the acne isn’t very severe and can heal by itself, with minimal care, in only a couple of weeks. It worsens upon popping them. No matter how tempting it is, don’t bother them and just treat them with topical treatment (mild creams and serums).

Usage of Skincare products:

Skincare products such as sponges, brushes, etc., should be cleaned regularly to avoid infection. Cosmetics, antibiotics and creams must be used sparingly to avoid allergies or any other harm to the skin.

Don’t play the doctor:

Although most acne can be treated with patience, some serious and long-term conditions require the advice of a doctor, preferably a dermatologist. Never treat yourself without prior knowledge.

Therefore follow the above ways to prevent acne in teenage and stay clear.
