This past month has been crazy with opportunities all relating to China, adoption, kids etc. It\'s like when it rains it pours...
cept this is a fantastic area to have pour.
I am enjoying that fact that even in plain old Iowa the opportunities are huge.
A few months ago, I was contacted by a family to photograph one of their first new "family" photos. They were heading to China to get their sweet little daughter and I was beyond excited.
For those of you that are new, I offer special adoption photography to families who have adopted in the past three months (if you are adopting and would like to know more feel free to contact me).

These are some of my favorite moments to photograph because three months is not very long and everything is so new to the child...
and you can definitely catch moments and expressions that are priceless.
This is practically part two of the previous "Cake Smash" post. This family made me laugh. They have all boys and usually boys aren\'t keen on having their photos taken.
Well, these boys love it and had a great time making me giggle.
P.S. This year I have a new love of Plaid...so much, that I have been wearing Plaid shirts from the men\'s department because they fit better and look great with skinny jeans.
So, when this family had all their boys Plaided up (is that a word?), I was a pretty happy lady!
Look for simplicity and smooth color transitions.
I like shooting in fields because it is a neutral backdrop that I know will separate my client from the surroundings. If I am not shooting in a neutral...then I look for bright backdrops that are simple.
You want to always pick something that draws your eye to the client and not what is around them. Disclaimer: this is not always the case when you do themed sessions...you of course want to see all the surrounding details.
Hopefully, these colorful photos brighten this cold, dreary October day! Crossing my fingers this rain doesn\'t turn into snow too soon...the joys of Iowa weather!
Cake Smash. One of my favorite sessions...not just because I think it is adorable but because I LOVE cake myself. So much, that watching a 1 year old smash and eat their own cake makes me hungry during the session...it\'s BAD!
This little guy was hilarious. He wasn\'t exactly a fan of eating cake and didn\'t want to eat it at all. He kept giving us crazy faces like we were weird giving him a whole cake to himself.
This session was pretty special to shoot because I also shot his Mom\'s maternity photos and David\'s newborn pics...it\'s not often you get the chance to see kids grow and change throughout the year.
