In darkness I watch the single, dancing flame.
Mind consumed, it writes traces across my vision.
Burning but hollow, bounding with frantic life.
Sacrificing all to feed, to remain in existence.

Could I burn with a passion so destructive, so fierce.
Encompassed all about, inside a desire so rampant.
Ready to destroy to possess, freedom at any price.
To surrender all things and vanish in the one.

Gusting breezes filled with autumns promise
Push gossamer strands from stolen webs
Deaths second self alights upon the landscape
As Maple and Oak adorn with brilliant colors

The Old and the New share tears upon the Wind

For Winter is Coming

We marvel at the universe
As we play within it
Like a child
The stars like fireflies
Captured in a jar
Put on a shelf
Left undisturbed
While we fall asleep

It is often said that childhood is over
The first time we realize we are finite creatures
When our simple worlds, that once were vast
And all of existence, shrink to the infinitesimal.

Our worlds were empty of decisions
Naked of deception, choices always simple
How did our colors fade, ravaged by a singular moment
All of our tomorrows shadowed in each new today.

What force would move you from my side
Violence born of twisted reason
Shake the purity of your intentions
Tear me from the solace of your embrace

What words could turn your heart to stone
Strain the limits of our immortal bonds
Bloodstained clash of volatile ideals
Conjured to stain our alabaster vows

Fantasy cannot beggar a thought so cruel
No imagined force could dare exist
Our avowal beyond compromise
The heart of a dragon

Can you see her dance as you move through the glade
Verdant and gold streams of light play on her tresses
The soft summer warmth that’s fills the blood
Rhythms of life, in sound, caress the senses

Does your mind embrace her as you hear the music
Harmonies of breezes playing in her limbs
Subtle energies washing through you
As she expands, engulfs you

You stand inside her, eyes softly closed, drinking in life
Enfolded in nature’s domain, regenerating your will
Drinking her in as she offers up herself
Unfolding like a lotus

Standing in Ivory silence
Longing upward at her numb beauty
Her light strips away all shadows, all vanities
Of what we imagine to be truth

The Truth, like fact, is always cold
Our perceptions, a careless framework
Fantasy carries with it a singular warmth
The comfort of emotional satisfaction.

Eyes that see only yours.
Dancing as a falling blossom.
A hummingbird in painted silk.
The brief life of a butterfly.
Feel the poetry of my breath.
As I whisper your name.

Hither came they on horror fraught wings of aeons past
Crowned and clad in the ancient night of time
As the fallen, faded petals of sunset dipped into ulterior night
They gathered, somber and secret, to observe my passing.

My years crept past the vaults of reality enshrouded in mystic grey
I knew them as the passing of shadows born upon flowing, archaic waters
With still born eyes I gazed upon the sepulcheric dome of the sky, seeing naught
Evoking the dead and spectral dreams of the primal, eldritch past to give answer.

Vaguely I lived, merely existing, in shadowy, necromantic dreams
Dreams that hover on the verge of fathomless sleep
In lethargic abandon I challenged stagnant morality to part
And descended with malefic laughter into the bosom of the absolute void

Forgotten gods gazed with eyes of ultimate oblivion, and spoke
“Be thou enamored of death’s darkly curtained halls” I gave them answer
“Nay, for I have been to the wall. The bastion between hope and certainty.
The riddle which lies betwixt fate and choice. And long for its cryptic embrace.”

The black, funeral veil of night covers me in misted sorrow
I lie in the chill, eternal twilight of infinite gloom. Half life, child like, yet driven
Chaos unravels the corridors of my mind, no destination sought, no desire.
It corrupts my soul with irreverence. Nothing cherished left sacred.

Eternity is ended. Everything is nothing. Clinging only to ghosts
Insanity, but knowledge gained no other can comprehend
Remember me as one with the rampant sky, born of fire to soon quenched
A slave to memory’s beckon. A glimpse of dark reflection.

Alone in contemplation, the night begins.
Floating inward, the freedom of darkness.
Thoughts and scenes flow within me.
A chemical tide of fractured memories.

Fleeting shadows of remembrance, haunting me.
Vivid treasures from long ago, sustaining me.
Evidence and exposition, inconstant allies, urging me.
Answers born of long battles, denying me.

She embraces my thoughts with silken arms.
Whispers promises to ease my longing in softest dreams.
Her seduction of lies tell of time and love, all desires.
Still always she flees at dawn, ephemeral morning mist.

Yet still we hasten to find her.
In musing or in dreams, to possess her.
For it is our particular doom and greatest fortune.
That at the last, we forget.
