If you are a student planning to pursue higher education then you must prepare for the times ahead. It is conditional that university degrees are awarded to those students only who successfully write and submit their dissertation.

You must have been writing research essays and research papers even before but your university-level demands an upgraded level. Previously you may have been a research essay writer but now you will have to be a researcher, well-prepared to write a dissertation. There are various methodologies to write a dissertation. Usually, a standard is followed and some universities also have their own methodologies for writing a dissertation.

The normal standard for writing a dissertation requires you to write acknowledgments in the beginning before the table of content and the abstract. After the abstract, your dissertation follows the usual pattern where the introduction is followed by the body of your dissertation, and a conclusion is added at the end. Some dissertations also recommend solutions that are added before the conclusion in your dissertation.

APA style and MLA are commonly used methodologies to write your dissertations.

APA style is the most followed one in social sciences. Dissertation Writing in APA style is usually favored by students because it is simpler and widely accepted. You are required to make a title page and immediately after the title page you write the abstract. The main headings in the APA style of writing would be centered and bold. You will be required to indent all the paragraphs. Only the first heading in your text would not be bold. The subheadings are bold but flushed left. The header includes the shortened title of your dissertation in capital letters at the left corner of the page. A page number is included in the header at the upper right corner of the page.

The APA style is preferable because of its simpler citation method. You only add the name of the author and publication year for in-text citations. References are listed in detail in the bibliography which requires you to write the name of author, publication year, title followed by the publisher of your source, and location of the publisher. All these entries are separated by a period.

MLA style is also quite commonly followed, and it is not very much different from the APA style. The intext citations do not include the publication year, as in the APA style but you are required to include page numbers when quoting directly from another source. A cover page and abstract are usually not required but your university may demand so. Your name, instructor’s name, course, and date are enlisted at the top left corner of your first page. Main headings are flushed left and bold while the subheadings are in italics and they are not bold.

In the bibliography, the publication year appears at the end of the reference and the book title is italicized. If the quoted source is a journal article then its title is enclosed in inverted commas and the name of the journal is Italicized. The header is added on the top right corner of your document which includes the pager number and last name of the author.

There are various sources available on the internet that help you write theses, research papers, and dissertations. I once consulted an online platform to write my essay online as a school student. Although it was quite long ago the expert opinion helped me correct my mistakes so it is not bad to take help when you face difficulty.

This is a general guideline that introduces you to different types of methodologies for writing a dissertation. In the end, the choice to choose a particular methodology is always yours. This article would make it easy for you to choose a methodology.
