*Katniss Everdeen:Katniss's name comes from a plant that grows in the forest, it has arrowhead-shaped leaves

*Peeta Mellark: In Greek it means cake or pie, it is also related to Pita bread ( He is the bakers son of course).

* Gale Hawthorn: Gale means a strong force or wind, Hawthorn is a thorny rosebush with blooming flowers.

* Primrose Everdeen: A primrose is a pale yellow-ish flower.

* Haymitch Abernathy: Ralph Abernthy who was a civil rights leader

* Effie Tinket: Effie means fair speech.

*Madge:Greek for pearl

*Octavia: a character in the Shakespear play

*Porta: In Latin it means pig.

*Flavius: In Latin it means golden, given for his gold lipstick and orange-ish curls.
