About Me: Atlantic Starr is a Rhythm and Blues music group that produced 10 Top 10 Billboard R and B music hits from 1978-1994, with the biggest hit being the musically acclaimed "Always," which hit #1 on the Billboard U.S. Hot 100 charts, Billboard Adult Contemporary charts, and the Billboard R and B music charts in 1987. Other major hits by Atlantic Starr include, "Circles" and "Masterpiece."
The group was formed in 1976 in White Plains, N.Y., and its members included Joseph Phillips (percussion), Clifford Archer (bass), Porter Carroll, Jr. (drums), and 3 brothers: David Lewis (guitar/vocals), Wayne Lewis (keyboards/vocals) and Jonathan Lewis (percussion/trombone). The original lead singer was Sharon Bryant, who in later years was replaced by Barbara Weathers, Porscha Martin and Rachel Oliver.
Their sound was influenced by 1970's R and B music groups such as Earth Wind and Fire, The Commodores, New Birth and L.T.D. The influence is evident in their music, such as the funky "Freak-A-Ristic," and the sensual "If Your Heart Isn't In It."
