The channel was started by YouTubers Mark Fischbach (Markiplier) and Ethan Nestor-Darling (CrankGameplays). The goal was to upload one video each day. The creators decided to upload one new video per day, so that the YouTube community would be able to watch the videos as they wished. The Unus Annus channel eventually had more than 8,500 subscribers and had over 300 videos.
