About Me:Mental health is an integral part of our wellbeing. As humans we are faced with many challenges, complexities, and paradoxes. We long to be loved, to make sense of the world around us, to create, and to feel. But sometimes, amidst the trauma that can come from simply being alive, we forget who we are or it is hidden from us. In other cases, it is the more overt trauma of abuse, an accident, a disease, a war, or a significant loss that blinds us. In life we desperately need ourselves and others but the connections can get interrupted and even severed. We might notice depression, anxiety, PTSD, substance abuse, identity issues, grief, self-harm, low self-esteem, trust issues, codependency, fear, shame, anger, loneliness, disillusionment, a lack of motivation, a sense of meaningless, perfectionism, stress, and mood swings. The therapy I practice at Angela Summers Counseling is a relationship between two or more humans working to restore connections and build new ones. It is my passion to foster the space, time, compassion, and non-judgment necessary for those whom I work with to move towards healing. I honor the uniqueness of the individual respecting the client's beliefs, experiences, and goals. I believe in integrative care and seek to address the needs of the whole person including the body, mind, and spirit. My approach draws from many theories such as client-centered, mindfulness based, somatic experiencing (SE), trauma informed, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), existential, humanistic, rational-emotive behavior therapy (REBT), choice theory, solution-focused brief therapy, internal family systems (IFS), and Gottman, among others. The psychotherapy I practice is a partnership between fellow travelers to seek truth, compassion, and wellbeing. You are not alone. Change is possible. Now is time to move towards healing.
