| There could be many reasons why your cat won’t use her litter box. First rule out any physical reason for the situation.
Visiting the vet can eliminate any problems such as bladder or kidney infection, a blockage, or diabetes.
The next step is to make sure the litter box is kept clean. Many cats will not use a soiled litter box. If an odor is offensive to you it is probably offending the cat.

Scoop out wastes at least daily and dispose of in a strong bag. You don’t want it breaking and the used litter spilling out.
Next, make sure the cat feels safe using the box. You have to admit she’s in a vulnerable position. Move litter boxes away from high traffic areas and where children play.
She needs to feel safe. You may even want to place a cover over the box. Although it is more for aestics and odor control, the cat may find herself feeling safer in an enclosed area.
Lastly, make sure your cat isn’t drowning in litter. Placing too much can frighten the cat when her feet sink. This is particularly a problem with declawed cats.
Keep in mind that if your cat has an accident it may also be due to stress. Changes in the home can cause a cat to react or change her habits. Hopefully this is temporary and she will begin again reusing the litter box.
