It’s a simple exercise, but it is extremely beneficial to your core. As we all know a strong core makes you a stronger runner. I don’t think I have to go into much detail on how to perform a plank; however they are many variations that can work different areas.

The side plank helps to work your abdominals, obliques, and your back. The up down plank which is performed by starting on your elbows and rising up so that you are on your palms. This move helps to work not only your abdominals but also your arms and shoulders.

The calf raise in itself is very simple and easy to do anywhere. You can do these while standing in your home, on your stairs or while at the gym. It is no secret that strong calves are important to runners. Try to add these in after your runs to help to avoid calf issues.

Strength training for runners does not have to be a complicated matter. Focus on doing some of these simple exercises and you will quickly notice a difference in your performance and overall body.
