Solar Storm Secrets Unveiled: Tree Ring Evidence From the 1859 Carrington Event

A research group coordinated by the University of Helsinki was able to measure a spike in radiocarbon concentration of trees in Lapland that occurred after the Carrington flare. This discovery helps to prepare for dangerous solar storms.

The Carrington Event of 1859 is one of the largest recorded solar storms in the last two centuries. It was seen as white light flares on a giant sunspot group, fires at telegraph stations and disturbances in geomagnetic measurements, as well as aurorae even in tropical regions.

In a joint study carried out by the University of Helsinki, Natural Resources Institute Finland and the University of Oulu, a sign of an increase in radiocarbon concentrations following the Carrington storm was detected for the first time in tree rings. Previously, radiocarbon traces have only been detected from far more intense solar storms.
Discovery through a cosmic marker

Encounters between strong magnetized clouds of charged particles released from the Sun, known as solar plasma flows, and Earth’s geomagnetic field result in geomagnetic storms. The geomagnetic field directs the solar storm particles into the atmosphere primarily through the Polar regions. The most visible consequence of the phenomenon are aurorae.

In the upper atmosphere, sufficiently high-energy particles can, through nuclear reactions, also produce radiocarbon (14C), a radioactive isotope of carbon. Over the course of months and years, radiocarbon ends up in the lower atmosphere as part of atmospheric carbon dioxide, and eventually in plants through photosynthesis. The process of photosynthesis preserves the information contained in carbon dioxide in the annual rings of trees.

The trees of Lapland are a unique natural archive for investigating the past behavior of the Sun. Markku Oinonen is drilling a sample containing interesting information on events in the 19th century. Credit: Joonas Uusitalo

To obtain the information held by radiocarbon, samples are extracted by carving from the wood material grown over individual years. The samples are processed to cellulose and the cellulose into pure carbon by burning and chemical reduction. The fraction of radiocarbon in pure carbon is measured using a particle accelerator.

“Radiocarbon is like a cosmic marker describing phenomena associated with Earth, the solar system, and outer space,” says Markku Oinonen, Director of the University of Helsinki’s Laboratory of Chronology, who headed the study.
Mapping solar storms

A solar storm corresponding to the Carrington event in modern times would disrupt electrical and mobile networks and cause major problems for satellite and navigation systems, leading to problems in, for example, air traffic. This is why accurate knowledge of solar behavior benefits society.

Solar storms smaller and more common than the Carrington storms can be studied with measuring devices and satellites nowadays, while larger ones can be investigated, for example, by measuring radiocarbon concentration in tree rings.

So far, it has not been possible to study specifically medium-sized storms such as the Carrington event, which have not occurred in modern times, using conventional radiocarbon techniques. This recent study opens up a potential new way of investigating the frequency of Carrington-sized storms, which may help to better prepare for future threats.
Increasingly accurate information on the carbon cycle

The results were interpreted using a numerical model of radiocarbon production and transport developed by researchers at the University of Oulu.

“The dynamic atmospheric carbon transport model was specifically developed for describing geographical differences in the distribution of radiocarbon in the atmosphere,” says Postdoctoral Researcher Kseniia Golubenko from the University of Oulu.

What was significant in the recently published study was how the radiocarbon content of trees in Lapland differed from that of trees at lower latitudes. The first measurements were carried out at the Accelerator Laboratory of the University of Helsinki, while repeat measurements conducted in two other laboratories significantly reduced the previous uncertainties.

The discovery can help to better understand atmospheric dynamics and the carbon cycle from the time before human-generated fossil fuel emissions, enabling the development of increasingly detailed carbon cycle models.

“It’s possible that the excess of radiocarbon caused by the solar flare was primarily transported to the lower atmosphere through northern regions, contrary to the general understanding of its movement,” muses Doctoral Researcher Joonas Uusitalo from the Laboratory of Chronology.
Other sources of radiocarbon

“It’s also possible that the cyclic change in the production of radiocarbon in the upper atmosphere caused by the variation in solar activity has resulted in the local differences on the ground level seen in our findings,” Uusitalo adds.

According to Uusitalo, the dominant fraction of radiocarbon is produced by galactic cosmic rays coming from outside the solar system, even though exceptionally strong solar storms generate individual bursts of the isotope in the atmosphere. Cosmic rays, in turn, are weakened by solar wind, a continuous flux of particles originating in the Sun that fluctuates between stronger and weaker in 11-year cycles.

The topic requires further research. Historical records show that significant geomagnetic storms also took place in 1730 and 1770, which is why their tracking is likely to be in focus next.

Why is Nazism on the rise?
This is a query I put to a \'chat bot\' on my PC, I think its answer is interesting enough to share with you

Me: \'Why is Nazism on the rise?\'

Bot Searching for: Why is Nazism on the rise?

Generating answers for you…

"The rise of Nazism can be attributed to a complex interplay of factors. Here are some key points:

Economic Conditions:

Widespread economic misery, fear, and perception of worse times to come, as well as anger and impatience with the apparent failure of the government to manage the crisis, can offer fertile ground for the rise of extremist ideologies12.

Nationalism

Nationalism and Anti-Semitism: The rise in nationalism intensified the rise in anti-Semitism, which had also been growing since the Enlightenment3. The First World War strengthened these feelings of nationalism across Europe3.

Scapegoating

Scapegoating: Many people within Germany, including Adolf Hitler, found the loss of the First World War very difficult and humiliating to process. Instead, many looked for scapegoats to blame. This led to the Stab-in-the-Back Myth3.

Treaty of Versailles

Treaty of Versailles: The Treaty of Versailles forced Germany to admit complete responsibility for the war; pay large amounts of reparations (which undermined the Germany post-war economy); give up significant proportions of land, and limited the size of its army. The Treaty was extremely unpopular in Germany3.

Rise of the Nazi Party:

The unsettled conditions in Germany encouraged the popularity of nationalism and nostalgia for the country’s pre-war strength. Nationalism was a key factor in the rise in popularity of nationalist political parties such as the Nazis3.

Generational Disconnect:

A generational disconnect from the events of the Nazi era have older Germans concerned about repeating the past4.
It’s important to note that these are historical factors that contributed to the rise of Nazism in the past. The reasons for any contemporary rise in such ideologies could be different and would need to be studied in their specific socio-political context.

Me: \'These conclusions and hypotesis are correct and satisfying. Should we then fear a third world war in a near future? The precursors of WWII match today\'s conditions.\'

Bing ChatBot: \'Searching for: possibility of third world war

Generating answers for you…

The possibility of a third world war is a complex issue and is influenced by many factors. Here are some insights based on the information I found:

Geopolitical Competition: There is increased geopolitical competition for economic and military hegemony1. This includes the rise of China with its assertive foreign policy aiming at global dominance, and the containment policy of the West1.

Nuclear Risk: The situation now is far more perilous than it was in 1914 and 1939 because the major powers all have nuclear weapons2. The danger here is not that one side takes the pre-meditated decision to spark the apocalypse, but rather that a conflict or area of tension escalates to a certain point, one party makes a move that another party misinterprets, and then a nuclear exchange begins2.

Regional Conflicts: The regional war in the Middle East, with its epicenter in Gaza, is unlikely to escalate into a World War2. However, the dangers are real enough, both of a genocide in Gaza and of a further escalation that draws in Iran, flares into the oil heartlands of the Persian Gulf, and knocks the world economy off its axis2.

Flashpoint Conflicts: The Indo-Pacific and Ukraine are not the only potential flashpoint involving major powers around the globe3. The US and UK launching air strikes against Houthi sites in Yemen has raised fears that the two nations and their allies might be drawn into a wider regional war3.

However, it’s important to note that these factors alone do not necessarily lead to a third world war. The interplay of these and other factors, including political climate, social unrest, and historical context, contribute to the complex dynamics at play. It’s also crucial to remember that correlation does not imply causation, and further research is needed to fully understand these relationships.

While the current geopolitical climate does have some parallels with the conditions that led to previous world wars, it’s important to remember that history does not repeat itself exactly. The world has changed significantly since the time of the World Wars, and the international community has developed numerous mechanisms to prevent such large-scale conflicts. However, it’s always important to remain vigilant and work towards peace and understanding among nations.\'

This information was suggested for me to read:

"What are some examples of major protests in recent years

Here are some examples of major protests that have occurred in recent years:

Black Friday Amazon Protests (2020): Warehouse workers and climate groups protested Amazon’s policies on Black Friday1.

Biden/Harris Celebrations (2020): Biden and Harris supporters flocked to the streets to celebrate their victory1.

End SARS Protests (2020): This was a decentralized social movement, and series of mass protests against police brutality in Nigeria1.

September Climate Strikes (2020): These were a series of international strikes and protests to demand action be taken to address climate change1.

2020–2021 Belarusian Protests: These were a series of political demonstrations and protests against the Belarusian government and President Alexander Lukashenko2.

2020–2021 United States Racial Unrest: Following the murder of George Floyd, protests against police brutality and systemic racism took place across the United States2.

2021 Colombian Protests: These were nationwide protests against increased taxes and health care reform2.

2021–2023 Myanmar Protests: These were a series of widespread protests, strikes, and civil disobedience movements in Myanmar in response to the 2021 Myanmar coup d’état2.

Please note that this is not an exhaustive list and there have been many other significant protests around the world in recent years."

Me: \'Since history doesn\'t repeat itself exactly, then what is likely to come out of the present global agitation and unrest? IOW. what should we expect as an outcome of it?\'

ChatBot: \'Searching for: outcome of present global agitation and unrest

Generating answers for you…

Predicting the exact outcome of the current global agitation and unrest is challenging due to the complex interplay of numerous factors. However, here are some possibilities based on the information I found:

Continued Unrest: Conditions that spawned global unrest on every continent in recent years are unlikely to recede. Rather, they are likely to worsen in the face of a slowing global economy and little sign of causes of disaffection being addressed1.

Increased Protests: The past few years have seen a rise in major protests and unrest. This trend is likely to continue, with issues such as governance taking center stage2.

Economic Impact: Armed conflict and its aftermath corrode virtually every aspect of society, including socioeconomic development. The global economic costs of insecurity generated by conflicts amount to an estimated $400 billion each year3.

Geopolitical Shifts: Increased geopolitical competition and regional conflicts could lead to shifts in the global balance of power1.

Rise of Extremist Ideologies: Economic instability and social unrest can contribute to the rise of extremist ideologies1.

It’s important to note that these are potential outcomes and the actual result will depend on how the global community responds to these challenges. It’s also crucial to remember that correlation does not imply causation, and further research is needed to fully understand these relationships.\'

As the evil increases in the last days, so will God\'s spirit: "\'In the last days,\' God says, \'I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams" Acts 2:17.

"Revelation 22

1 Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb
2 down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.
3 No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him.
4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.
5 There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.

6 The angel said to me, “These words are trustworthy and true. The Lord, the God who inspires the prophets, sent his angel to show his servants the things that must soon take place.”
7 “Look, I am coming soon! Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy written in this scroll.”
8 I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I had heard and seen them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had been showing them to me.
9 But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your fellow prophets and with all who keep the words of this scroll. Worship God!”
10 Then he told me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this scroll, because the time is near.
11 Let the one who does wrong continue to do wrong; let the vile person continue to be vile; let the one who does right continue to do right; and let the holy person continue to be holy.”
Epilogue: Invitation and Warning
12 “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done.

13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.
14 “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.
15 Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.
16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”
17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.
18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll.
19 And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.
20 He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.”Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen."

I was always skeptical about carbon dating theory which assumes that carbon isotope C-14 is a dependable tool in measuring time. I saw that there were many variables that could not be measured since these were part of Earth\'s past before we even existed. The variables are natural climatic changes such as ice ages and heating up ages of this planet, unrecorded volcanic eruptions which always alter the climate and its carbon concentrations, how temperature of the air and water affects decaying rate of C-14 and its absorption by the plant and animal life, also a desalination problem which occurs when salty sea water forces its way into a river system as a result of a powerful earthquake (ie, Fukushima tsunami), and what effects this has on fossilization process of biological life and its ability to store C-14 in its tissue, also the variable rate of braking down of chemical bonds which hold all matter together during these "unknown" planetary upheavals.

It almost seams that this method of dating was adopted in haste to discredit the Biblical timeline (Willard Libby, 1940s). Not to omit/forget another stark fact that carbon dating also invalidates the theory of creation in favor of theory of evolution. Need I say more? I remain a skeptic.

"A Crucial Archaeological Dating Tool Is Wrong, And It Could Change History as We Know It
Tech

One of the most important dating tools used in archaeology may sometimes give misleading data, new study shows - and it could change whole historical timelines as a result.

The discrepancy is due to significant fluctuations in the amount of carbon-14 in the atmosphere, and it could force scientists to rethink how they use ancient organic remains to measure the passing of time.

A comparison of radiocarbon ages across the Northern Hemisphere suggests we might have been a little too hasty in assuming how the isotope - also known as radiocarbon - diffuses, potentially shaking up controversial conversations on the timing of events in history.

By measuring the amount of carbon-14 in the annual growth rings of trees grown in southern Jordan, researchers have found some dating calculations on events in the Middle East – or, more accurately, the Levant – could be out by nearly 20 years.

That may not seem like a huge deal, but in situations where a decade or two of discrepancy counts, radiocarbon dating could be misrepresenting important details.

The science behind the dating method is fairly straightforward: nitrogen atoms in the atmosphere hit with cosmic radiation are converted into a type of carbon with eight neutrons. This carbon – which has an atomic mass of 14 – has a chance of losing that neutron to turn into a garden variety carbon isotope over a predictable amount of time.

By comparing the two categories of carbon in organic remains, archaeologists can judge how recently the organism that left them last absorbed carbon-14 out of its environment.

Over millennia the level of carbon-14 in the atmosphere changes, meaning measurements need to be calibrated against a chart that takes the atmospheric concentration into account, such as INTCAL13.

The current version of INTCAL13 is based on historical data from North America and Europe, and has a fairly broad resolution over thousands of years. Levels do happen to spike on a local and seasonal basis with changes in the carbon cycle, but carbon-14 is presumed to diffuse fast enough to ignore these tiny bumps.

At least, that was the assumption until now.

"We know from atmospheric measurements over the last 50 years that radiocarbon levels vary through the year, and we also know that plants typically grow at different times in different parts of the Northern Hemisphere," says archaeologist Sturt Manning from Cornell University.

"So we wondered whether the radiocarbon levels relevant to dating organic material might also vary for different areas and whether this might affect archaeological dating."

The tree rings were samples of Jordanian juniper that grew in the southern region of the Middle East between 1610 and 1940 CE. By counting the tree rings, the team were able to create a reasonably accurate timeline of annual changes in carbon-14 uptake for those centuries.

Alarmingly, going by INTCAL13 alone, those same radiocarbon measurements would have provided dates that were older by an average of 19 years.

The difference most likely comes down to changes in regional climates, such as warming conditions. Extrapolating the findings back to earlier periods, archaeologists attempting to pinpoint Iron Age or Biblical events down to a few years would no doubt have a serious need to question their calibrations.

One controversial example is the dating of a single layer of archaeology at the Bronze and Iron Age city buried at Tel Rehov.

Just a few decades of difference could help resolve an ongoing debate over the extent of Solomon\'s biblical kingdom, making findings like these more than a minor quibble in a politically contested part of the world.

"Our work indicates that it\'s arguable their fundamental basis is faulty – they are using a calibration curve that is not accurate for this region," says Manning.

Collecting additional data from different geographical areas and taking a closer look at historical climate trends could help sharpen calibration techniques, especially in hotly debated regions.

For the time being, archaeologists covering history in the Levant are being advised to take their dates with a pinch of salt."

This research was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Thanks to Fossil Fuels, Carbon Dating Is in Jeopardy. One Scientist May Have an Easy Fix

"Today, the amount of carbon dioxide humans are pumping into Earth’s atmosphere is threatening to skew the accuracy of this technique for future archaeologists looking at our own time. That’s because fossil fuels can shift the radiocarbon age of new organic materials today, making them hard to distinguish from ancient ones. Thankfully, research published yesterday in the journal Environmental Research Letters offers a way to save Libby’s work and revitalize this crucial dating technique: simply look at another isotope of carbon."_A Smithsonian magazine special report

Carbon dating accuracy called into question after major flaw discovery

by Colm Gorey

"Though one of the most essential tools for determining an ancient object’s age, carbon dating might not be as accurate as we once thought.

When news is announced on the discovery of an archaeological find, we often hear about how the age of the sample was determined using radiocarbon dating, otherwise simply known as carbon dating.

Deemed the gold standard of archaeology, the method was developed in the late 1940s and is based on the idea that radiocarbon (carbon 14) is being constantly created in the atmosphere by cosmic rays which then combine with atmospheric oxygen to form CO2, which is then incorporated into plants during photosynthesis.

When the plant or animal that consumed the foliage dies, it stops exchanging carbon with the environment and from there on in it is simply a case of measuring how much carbon 14 has been emitted, giving its age.

But new research conducted by Cornell University could be about to throw the field of archaeology on its head with the claim that there could be a number of inaccuracies in commonly accepted carbon dating standards.

If this is true, then many of our established historical timelines are thrown into question, potentially needing a re-write of the history books.

In a paper published to the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the team led by archaeologist Stuart Manning identified variations in the carbon 14 cycle at certain periods of time throwing off timelines by as much as 20 years.

The possible reason for this, the team believes, could be due to climatic conditions in our distant past.
Standards too simplified

This is because pre-modern carbon 14 chronologies rely on standardized northern and southern hemisphere calibration curves to determine specific dates and are based on the assumption that carbon 14 levels are similar and stable across both hemispheres.

However, atmospheric measurements from the last 50 years show varying carbon 14 levels throughout. Additionally, we know that plants typically grow at different times in different parts of the northern hemisphere.

To test this oversight, the researchers measured a series of carbon 14 ages in southern Jordan tree rings calculated as being from between 1610 and 1940.

Sure enough, it showed that plant material in the southern Levant showed an average carbon offset of about 19 years compared with the current northern hemisphere standard calibration curve.

“There has been much debate for several decades among scholars arguing for different chronologies sometimes only decades to a century apart, each with major historical implications. And yet these studies […] may all be inaccurate since they are using the wrong radiocarbon information,” Manning said.

“Our work should prompt a round of revisions and rethinking for the timeline of the archaeology and early history of the southern Levant through the early Biblical period.”

What is The Treatment for Silver Iodide Toxicity?

Introduction:

Silver iodide is a chemical compound composed of silver and iodine that has been used in industry for many years. It has been used as an agricultural pesticide and in cloud seeding (a process that involves releasing silver iodide into clouds to create rain). It is also used in photography and as a disinfectant. Unfortunately, the use of silver iodide has been linked to numerous health risks, including toxicity, reproductive disorders, developmental defects, and cancer. Symptoms of silver iodide toxicity include coughing, wheezing, and difficulty breathing. Silver iodide is extremely toxic and can cause severe burns if it comes into contact with the skin. Inhaling silver iodide can also be fatal.
What Is Silver Iodide Toxicity?

Silver iodide (AgI) is a yellowish-white powder used in photography, as a pigment, and in manufacturing certain types of glass. It can also be found in some air pollution control devices. Silver iodide is slightly soluble in water and is more toxic than silver.

When silver iodide enters the environment, it can attach to particles in the air, such as dust or smoke. Once these contaminated particles are inhaled, they can deposit in the lungs and cause irritation. Ingestion of silver iodide can lead to nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Prolonged exposure to silver iodide can cause argyria, a condition where silver deposits in the tissues, causing them to turn blue or gray.
Who Are at Risk of Silver Iodide Toxicity?

People who are at an increased risk of silver iodide toxicity are listed below:

People who work with silver iodide in a laboratory or industrial setting.

People such as miners or smelters who are exposed to silver iodide through their occupation.

People who live in areas where silver iodide is used for cloud seeding.

Infants and young children.

Symptoms of silver iodide toxicity can range from mild to severe, including skin irritation, gastrointestinal upset, and respiratory problems. If a person has been exposed to silver iodide, it is important to seek medical attention immediately.
What Are the Sources of Exposure to Silver Iodide?

Some potential sources of exposure to silver iodide include:

Occupational Exposure - Workers in industries that use silver iodide, such as the semiconductor or photography industries, may be exposed to the chemical through inhalation, ingestion, or skin contact.

Environmental Exposure - Silver iodide may be released into the environment due to its use in cloud seeding or through accidental spills or leaks.

Consumer Products - Silver iodide may be present in some consumer products, such as certain types of jewelry and clothing, or as an ingredient in cosmetics or dietary supplements.

Medical Treatment - Silver Iodide may be used as a medicinal agent and applied to the skin in creams, ointments, or dressings.

Food and Water - Silver Iodide may be present in some food or water sources due to environmental contamination.

What Are the Symptoms of Silver Iodide Toxicity?

The symptoms of silver iodide toxicity are listed below:

Irritation of the eyes, skin, and mucous membranes.

Gastrointestinal irritation.

Vomiting.

Diarrhea.

Coughing and difficulty breathing.

Kidney damage.

Brain damage.

Death.

Rash or hives.

Tremors.

Worried
It would seam that a stage is set for uprooting of all good values we\'ve enjoyed and lived by since the last WW. The question now is; are we heading into a new reset of mankind? Some of the symptoms that led to French and Russian Revolutions are strikingly the same; failing economy, rising of taxes, scarcity of food and other goods, natural disasters, new radical ideologies being taught to our children at school level. I\'m bringing out here some facts from the past, as a way of a reminder that history can repeat itself when it\'s lessons are forgotten.

Please read the following facts which lead to such global changes;

"France was nearly bankrupt from both the Seven Years\' War and from helping the Americans during their Revolutionary War. The economic strain increased tension between the economic classes in France, which helped lead to the French Revolution.

Prior to the French Revolution, France\'s finance minister, Jacques Necker, suggested the royal family adopt a budget to save money. He was promptly fired.

Several factors led to the Revolution, including increasing economic inequality, environmental disasters, national debt, and political ideas from the Enlightenment.

The Phrygian cap (similar to the cap Smurfs wear) was a symbol of the revolution. In ancient Rome, slaves were given the cap when they were set free.

One of the symbols of the French Revolution was the fasces. A fasces is a bundle of wooden rods tied around an ax and is the root of the word fascist. In Ancient Rome, the fasces represented the unity and power of the people.

Robespierre, a leader of the Reign of Terror, replaced Catholicism with a so-called religion named the "Cult of the Supreme Being," with himself as the head.

Before the French Revolution, a hailstorm wiped out crops, leading to widespread food shortages and creating inflated bread prices.

The French Revolution went through several stages and finally culminated in a dictatorship under Napoleon.

The storming of the Bastille marks the unofficial beginning of the French Revolution, and France celebrates Bastille Day as a national holiday on July 14.

The French Revolution had many long-lasting effects on modern history, including triggering the decline of absolute monarchies around the world and unleashing a wave of global conflicts.

The French Revolution is one of the most important events in human history. It resulted in the rise of modern nationalism, decline of the power of the Catholic Church, the spread of liberalism, and it ushered in the age of revolutions.

Over 10,000 African slaves were freed as a result of the French Revolution in 1794. However, Napoleon restored slavery and the slave trade in 1802.

Maximilien Robespierre, a bourgeois lawyer, triggered the most bloody chapter of the French Revolution, known as the Reign of Terror. Between 1793–1794 alone there were 16,694 death sentences

In France, a taille was a tax on wages and land. Only the Third Estate (the peasants) had to pay it. This inequality helped trigger the French Revolution. Those who could afford to pay taxes, the upper class, paid hardly any taxes at all.["_50 Amazing French Revolution Facts

Russian-Revolution

"On February 23 (March 8, New Style), 1917, the revolution began, but it was neither organized nor immediately recognized as such by any of the existing parties or political groups. Strikes for higher wages at some of Petrograd’s factories had been occurring sporadically for some time, and on that day no fewer than 130,000 men were picketing.

To this total must be added the considerable number of female workers who were celebrating International Women’s Day. The number of strikers and their sympathizers was large, and although several bakers’ shops were demolished by the mob, neither the leaders of the Duma on the one hand nor the imperial government and the police on the other gave the matter any particular attention.
The only precaution taken by the authorities was to prevent the demonstrators from reaching the centre of the city.

The next day the strikers were still more numerous and probably amounted to 30 percent of all workers in Petrograd. Some sections of the crowd succeeded in reaching the city centre, and their mood soon became threatening. On that day university students joined the movement, but the primary concern of protesters remained the food shortages that had plagued the capital. Only a few cries were raised denouncing the autocracy and the war.

Even after the Duma had allowed itself to be prorogued and the garrison had revolted, Mikhail Rodzianko, speaker of the Duma, attempted to salvage the old regime. He not only sent urgent telegrams to the tsar and the leading generals pointing out the necessity of saving the monarchy and the country by conceding the necessary reforms but even held consultations with the very ministers whom he had denounced as treasonable. The vision of the tsar was equally myopic.

So blind was he to the facts of the situation that even at this hour he flatly rejected the appeals of the Duma and refused to believe that the strike had culminated in a revolution. When he and his advisers at last learned that the revolt of the Petrograd troops had endangered the existence of the monarchy, they immediately ordered a number of regiments from various parts of the front to proceed to the capital."_Russian history [1917]
