Winter is nearly here, but unofficially it is in full swing for many of us. Even for those of us in the states that winter doesn’t typically effect, it is best to prepare for some aspects of winter weather because it can truly be unpredictable. More than putting winter tires on your vehicle, there are a few things that you can do for your vehicle to help it fair a bit easier in the colder months.

If your vehicle has carpet mats, you may choose to temporarily replace these mats with rubber alternatives. This is a solution for drivers who live in regions getting snow, ice, and sleet so they can avoid getting slushy snow and salty water on carpet mats. After removing the carpet mats, place a thick towel on the floor and put down the rubber mat. The salt, especially, is not only going to stain, but it is also corrosive and can cause damage to your vehicle. Also, to avoid further contact with this salty slush, park away from in - especially in heated garages - whenever possible.

Wash your car often in winter. During the winter months, it is recommended that you wash your vehicle every ten days. However, you should wait to do so until the day is 40 degrees or warmer. You do not want to wash your vehicle on days with freezing temperatures, even when you are using professional car washing or car detailing services. When you do wash during the winter, ensure that your vehicle is thoroughly dried. A professional will understand this, but if you are washing it on your own, be careful. You can do as far as using a hairdryer or warming the rags used to dry the vehicle to make sure it dries properly. If you are concerned that your vehicle has an abundance of salt or slush, look up car wash near me and schedule a full auto detailing - these services are highly beneficial in winter

When it comes to preparing your vehicle for winter, no ideas are more important than practicing safe driving. Do not drive through puddles of water, especially when you’ve been driving over salty roads - something that cannot be avoided in snowy areas during the winter. This will lead to build-up of salt on your tires and vehicle, and salt is corrosive. While it is challenging to avoid all hazards of winter, routine maintenance and prevention are the best options.
