So with whey protein, it will usually take around 40 minutes to synthesize the it after ingestion. So the synthesis of new muscle protein is faster than the breakdown of old muscle protein, which is a great thing post workout when muscle fibers have just been broken down, and are ready to rebuild. This is much faster than casein and actually faster than most whole foods as well. Now we come to casein protein and its part on a balanced muscle building program. It is considered the slow protein. Protein synthesis takes anywhere from 3 to 4 hours, but here is the kicker, this is not a bad thing at all.
