you are right, I have looking for it. The photo was taken at the Puget Sound Navy Yard 28 April 1945.

About the Kirishima you are partly right. She was sunk by USS Washington, but it was Kirishima that almost destroyed the USS South Dakota, she was uonly surprised by the Washington.

PLEASE!!! These are not sail boats. Any ship carrying cannon is not a sail boat, it is a ship of war. Here we have a two-decker, possibly a sloop of war and a three-decker first rate. Thank you, research can be a very good thing.

USS Midway on a Tiger Cruise up Puget Sound just prior to heading for San Diego and her Museum assignment. (A tiger Cruise is where members of the sailors can come aboard and get a small taste of what goes on aboard ship.)

Not a bad painting, but there are a couple of omissions. All the sails are set and are taunt. That means she would be moving at a good clip. That being the case there would be a noticeable bow wave and a wake astern. Also, Men O' War did not carry their small boats on davits. They were stacked by size amidships.
